Federal Funding for EMS Data Integration

On behalf of the New York Mobile Integrated Healthcare Association, an organization dedicated to promoting innovation in EMS, we would like to make you aware of a very significant development in for our industry.

According to staff at the Office of the National Coordinator, a division of the Department of Health and Human Services, EMS is now eligible to access funds from the HiTech Act of 2009 (part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act), commonly known as the “Meaningful Use” program, to integrate with Hospitals.

Below, you can read the letter from the Office of the National Coordinator to the State Medicaid Directors specifically mentioning EMS (among other groups) as being able to access these funds.  An important caveat is that they must be accessed through your state’s Medicaid office.  For New York State, that means we will need to approach our State Medicaid Office to better understand how to access these funds.

We hope that all state government’s will help our industry access these funds which could help enable a significant amount of quality improvement and innovation in EMS.
