Ambulance Reform Act
You may not know it but there is currently a major piece of EMS legislation in Congress. The Medicare Ambulance Access, Fraud Prevention and Reform Act (HR.745, S.377) was introduced to both the House of Representatives and the Senate on February 4th, 2017. The act has four goals;
- Make the 2% Urban, 3% Rural and Super Rural reimbursement increases permanent.
- Collect accurate cost data.
- Recognize EMT’s and Paramedics as healthcare providers, not transportation commodities.
- End fraud that gives the industry a black eye.
Currently, the bill is in the Subcommittee on Health in the Senate and the Finance Committee in the House of Representatives. On behalf of EMS providers everywhere, please contact your local Congressional representatives to support this important piece of legislation.
The American Ambulance Association has put together a great video about this bill and why it is so important. You can view it directly below.
